Enigmatic French project Rozha emerges from the darkwave underground with Difforme, a deep and affecting examination of identity destabilized by the collapse of a relationship. It captures separation as a slow process in which emotional boundaries become increasingly difficult to recognize.
Whispered vocals move through a distinctly nocturnal atmosphere while driving rhythms keep the track pressing forward. The contrast is compelling; the voice sounds intimate and uncertain, almost as though it might disappear into the surrounding darkness, while the music beneath it remains insistent and physically immediate.
Rozha turn the confusion in the song's theme into something shadowed yet direct. The result is a darkwave track that finds its power in emotional ambiguity, thus the frightening realization that when two lives separate, neither may emerge in its original shape.
