Montreal five-piece Fleeting Colours return with Autumn, their first release in about eighteen months and the opening glimpse of their forthcoming debut EP, Crystal. The single retains the dreamy atmosphere at the heart of the band’s music while bringing greater energy, immediacy and pop clarity into focus.
Swirling guitars evoke the enveloping pull of nineties shoegaze, but Autumn also draws from the more contemporary textures associated with more modern bands. Hypnotic drum loops run beneath lush layers of vocals, giving the track a steady internal motion as melodies blur and overlap around them.
Arriving after sold-out festival appearances in Montreal and Toronto, the song captures Fleeting Colours at the beginning of a promising new phase. Their characteristic sound is still present, but it seems enhanced with a stronger sense of momentum and a sharper melodic instinct, pushing the band into new territory.
Autumn was recorded and produced by Fleeting Colours, mixed at Holy Mountain Sound in Montreal and mastered by Greg Obis at Chicago Mastering Service.
