Italian darkwave outfit Christine Plays Viola return with At Last, I Found You (Fear Increases Violent Emotions), a standalone single written during the sessions for their latest album, F.I.V.E. (Fear Increases Violent Emotions). The song serves as the concluding piece of the story the band began there.
Despite its close connection to the record, At Last, I Found You was consciously omitted from its final sequence. Guitarist and bandleader Fabrizio Giampietro describes it as the most direct and instinctive composition to emerge from the sessions, but its immediacy threatened to draw attention away from the album’s intended emotional progression.
“At Last, I Found You was always the most immediate and instinctive song we wrote during the F.I.V.E. sessions,” Giampietro explains. “We deliberately left it off the album because we wanted listeners to experience that record’s emotional arc without this song becoming its centre of gravity. Six months later, it felt like the right moment to finally share it.”
That decision makes perfect sense once the track takes hold. Soaring melodies rise above an insistent rhythmic foundation, giving the song the force of a dark alternative dancefloor anthem. Its accessibility doesn't come at the expense of the shadowed atmosphere that has become central to Christine Plays Viola’s identity.
Its accompanying video extends the whole unease into visual form, following a solitary driver through a night that grows progressively less stable. Black mist consumes the surrounding landscape as memories and apparitions break into the present, erasing the boundaries between recollection, hallucination and reality. Refusing to provide a definitive explanation, the narrative leaves the driver, as well as the audience, suspended inside the song’s uncertainty.
The new track offers a powerful epilogue to F.I.V.E. while standing confidently on its own.
