NYC solo project Body Stuff has unveiled Hysteria, the second single from the forthcoming sophomore album Body Stuff 5, due October 16th, 2026.
Led by Curran Reynolds, Body Stuff offers an unconventional take on noise rock that feels inseparable from New York City, carrying the grime of its streets alongside the vertigo of its skyline. Metallic weight emerges through a dreamlike haze, while longing and euphoria continually pull against one another.
Hysteria introduces an unexpected classical dimension through the prominent sound of a string quartet or its synthesized equivalent. Reynolds traces the idea back to childhood memories of hearing Mozart and Tchaikovsky through his father
He expands: "My dad was a classical music fan and some of my earliest memories are of Mozart, Tchaikovsky, etc. As a kid, I was excited to hear pop and rock bands of the 1980s play around with classical elements, in songs like 'Rock Me Amadeus' and 'The Final Countdown.' The strings on 'Hysteria' are a nod to that tradition.”
That grand melodic sweep surrounds a song concerned with unrest on both a collective and deeply physical level, drawing a direct line between a society in confusion and a body struggling to contain its effects.
Reynolds explains: “'Hysteria' is a simple song that equates turmoil in the world with turmoil in the body, then suggests that love is the way out."
The accompanying video extends the visual language of Body Stuff 5 through a series of theater masks created by artist Matt Kepler, based on the faces he originally drew for the album’s cover.
