BONG WIZARD is a Los Angeles-based stoner metal/sludge trio bound by a shared devotion to heavy, groove-soaked sound. Lifting inspiration from wildly diverse musical backgrounds that range from punk rock to bluegrass, the band’s massive tone and infectious energy are the result of their experience and their tendency to explore the weight of their sound further.
Their latest EP, Clones, is a three-track release that reimagines classic songs through a haze of distortion and intoxicating hallucinogens. Poor Boy Smokin’ Blues, a twisted take on the bluegrass staple Poor Boy Workin’ Blues, transforms hard labor into high leisure, Smokehouse warps the psychedelic rock swagger of the Doors' Roadhouse Blues into a smoky, riff-heavy jam, while Mississippi Fiend gives the Southern rock grit of Mountain's Mississippi Queen a fresh and rather green spin.
On Clones, BONG WIZARD channels both the heavy and fun parts of sludge and stoner metal, with the entire release being crushingly heavy yet full of humor, dominance, and undeniably good musicianship.
