1 Mile North is multi-instrumentalist Jon Hills' Brooklyn-based ambient, post-rock project, with five albums already done, as well as a split record with Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, and a collection of home and live recordings to their credit. New album, The Sunken Nest, will be out on December 13th, 2022, introduced with the melodic and somber instrumental, Find Rest.
Although instrumental, the album comes based on a concept, and was written and recorded on Fire Island, New York, reflecting on a horrific shipwreck from the 1800s. Sonny DiPerri (Animal Collective, Emma Ruth Rundle, El Ten Eleven, DIIV) mixed the music.
1 Mile North draws on the genre-bending edginess of Chicagoan early post rock as well as the older catalog of Kranky Records to deliver a sense of calm and moodiness paired with a cinematic demeanor, reminiscent of acts such as Tortoise and Labradford. Find Rest is a slowcore fine example, mired in endearing repetition and tuneful melancholy.
