D//E Premiere: M. Grig: Still Lifes

Formerly known as Light of Woods, M. Grig is Mike Grigoni, an experimental composer and multi-instrumentalist who specializes in dobro, lap steel and pedal steel guitar.

Still Lifes is the musician's sophomore release which began over a decade ago when he was living in Seattle and had just bought his first multi-track recorder. His experimentation and the many hours he spent tucked away with it while it rained, resulted in some of the outcome becoming the basis for Still Lifes, which in the same vein as Field Notes, the artist's previous release from 2016, evokes notions of somber, nostalgic indie folk and Americana, with strong leanings towards ambiance and exploration.

Coming in at sixteen and a half minutes, the EP is a slow, contemplative adventure, dreamlike and ethereal but at the same time firm, authentic and natural like the landscapes its alluring pensiveness calls to mind.

Still Lifes releases on August 25th on Canadian label Other Songs Music and it streams in its entirety for the first time ever right below...
