High On Fire: Luminiferous

Luminiferous is studio album number seven for Matt Pike's High On Fire and it will be out on June 16th via Century Media. Like their previous record, the album is produced by Converge's Kurt Ballou and it is a very important checkpoint for the band, after setting the bar pretty high with 2012's De Vermis Mysteriis.

Luminiferous is a dark record, dealing with subjects such as ancient alien evil forces threatening humanity, hallucinogens, personal awareness and even love, that last one occurring due to Matt's breaking up with the love of his life and sobering up.

With Sleep reformed and High On Fire going full throttle with an excellent new album, that already, before its release, it is in advance considered as one of their best yet, it seems like the future is bright for Pike and his efforts. Luminiferous is lead by two dynamite tracks so far, the record's opener, The Black Plot and The Sunless Years, both streaming right below.

Luminiferous is streaming in its entirety over at NPR Music.
