Stream And Destroy 09.30.22 // Weekly Roundup

Stream And Destroy is a weekly feature on D//E in which we round up tracks and releases we didn't cover canonically during the current week. It's complementary to our regular posts and publishes on Friday release day. Oddments from previous weeks may appear. The feature now comes with an accompanying playlist on Spotify.

Torche lead vocalist Steve Brooks recently announced that the band’s tours with Messhugah, In Flames and Converge will be his final ones with the band. The new song, It Never Began, is a brilliant, grabbing heavy rocker.

The 2019 Drowse album Light Mirror will be followed by the upcoming Wane Into It. On Untrue In Headphones Midwife provides backing vocals and guitar, and the outcome is as somber as usual for those two artists. The song comes with a visual directed by Drowse’s Kyle Bates.

Weyes Blood will follow 2019's, Titanic Rising with new album And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow, out on November 18th, 2022 via Sub Pop. She says that It's Not Just Me, It's Everybody is "a Buddhist anthem, ensconced in the interconnectivity of all beings, and the fraying of our social fabric. Our culture relies less and less on people. This breeds a new, unprecedented level of isolation. The promise we can buy our way out of that emptiness offers little comfort in the face of fear we all now live with - the fear of becoming obsolete. Something is off, and even though the feeling appears differently for each individual, it is universal."

METZ have released Come On Down, a new song featuring IDLES vocalist Joe Talbot. METZ’s Alex Edkins comments: "Come On Down was originally recorded during the Atlas Vending sessions but never fully finished. During the pandemic I really gravitated towards the idea of collaboration as a way to fill the void left by the loss of live music. I reached out to friends from far and wide in order to get that feeling of community that gigs provide. Joe Talbot is a longtime friend who METZ has shared the stage with many, many times, and this song was a very natural and fun way to catch up with him and do something positive with our time off the road." Joe Talbot adds: “METZ have been a band we’ve looked up to since they came into our lives and made things better. I will never forget the first time I saw them or any of the other times. Allowing me to sing with them is a gift and I hope you like it. I love it and I love them. Long live METZ.

Woods Of Desolation have joined Season Of Mist and gear up for the new album The Falling Tide, out December 9th, 2022, their first one since 2014's great, As The Stars.

The upcoming movie of the Halloween series will include a Boy Harsher song. “Obviously, we’re huge fans of John Carpenter and the franchise is a fav, but to work with Gordon Green was also so special, his early films (George Washington, Undertow, Snow Angels) were heavy influences on our work,” the band say about their collaboration with the filmmakers.

R. Missing have revealed new single, Top Star de France, a collaboration with Manchester-based auteur-compositeur J-Walk.

The Bobby Lees offer a final preview of their forthcoming album, Bellevue, out October 7th, 2022 from Ipecac Recordings, Drummer Macky Bowman says of Ma Likes To Drink: “To paraphrase John Berger: there is a stark difference between being naked and being a nude. To be naked is to be natural. Stripped of societal confines you are free to be as languorous or wanton as you wish. Even in naked acts of exhibition the primary spiritual benefactor will be the model, not the voyeur. Conversely to be a nude is to be reduced to no more than your physical form, displayed as a trite odalisque for the pleasure of greasy slobs. On an unrelated note we are all very proud of this song and video! We really hope you enjoy. Love you!

Viscera is the expected sophomore release from dark death metal band Strigoi, which reveals Gregor Mackintosh and Chris Casket moving on from the heavy practices of Vallenfyre into even darker territory.

Vancouver’s Punitive Damage will release their debut album on Atomic Action Records on October 14th, 2022. The forceful hardcore of the minute-long cut Drawn Lines is the first example from the album.

Girls In Synthesis return with new album, The Rest Is Distraction, which will be released on October 14th, 2022 via their own imprint Own It. My Husband, the band's new single, is visually stunning as well as musically impressive, through its post punk assault.

Birds In Row will publish their third album, Gris Klein, on October 14th, 2022 via Red Creek Recordings. It’s their first since We Already Lost The World from 2018. Noah and Cathedrals are two new songs from the band's upcoming album, which they consider to be a diptych. The band explain: “Noah, speaks about the seeking of truth and reality, in a collapsing world, and how answering philosophical questions by economical answers is the norm, the getaway. And on the other hand, Cathedrals, we talk about the need to reinvent ourselves but also to learn constantly; The need of deconstruction in order to rebuild something more sustainable and fair for all.
