Stream And Destroy 08.06.21 // Weekly Roundup

Stream And Destroy is a weekly feature on D//E in which we round up tracks and releases we didn't cover canonically during the current week. It's complementary to our regular posts and publishes on Friday release day. Oddments from previous weeks may appear.

Bandcamp Fridays returned for the remainder of 2021, good music keeps coming in abundance amidst Summer's torridity, and wildfires continue raging all over the world because humankind is the prevailing species of this sorry Earth. Here's another edition of Stream And Destroy...

Having announced a North American Tour for Winter 2022, A Place to Bury Strangers have also unveiled a video for the track In My Hive off their fantastic new EP, Hologram. It's a short horror film by Manon Aulon Elphick, Niicolé and Data Animal.

On October 15th, 2020, METZ livestreamed a performance of their latest album Atlas Vending in its entirety at the Opera House in Toronto, and they have just released it as an audio/film bundle, and it sounds/looks very imposing.

Security is another punk rock dynamite off Comfort To Me, the much anticipated sophomore full length by Amyl & The Sniffers which is shaping up quite well.

The Body and BIG | BRAVE reveal another part of their collaborative album on Thrill Jockey. We have previously written that Polly Gosford is a murder song, usually found as Pretty Polly, about a young woman led into a forest where she is murdered and buried in a shallow grave.

Experimental band Kayo Dot announce their forthcoming album, Moss Grew on the Swords and Plowshares Alike, expected on October 29th, 2021 via Prophecy Productions, and introduced it with the lengthy prog-rocker Void in Virgo (The Nature of Sacrifice) and its accompanying video.

The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die return with their upcoming fourth album which is inspired by the Dark Souls video game, and finds them with a distinctly dark proclivity. Invading the World of the Guilty is the first example off Illusory Walls which releases in its entirety on October 8th, 2021 via Epitaph.

Another strong single and one more visually stunning video off Your Hellbound Heart, the excellent new album by dark synthpop band, Glaare. Terminator 2 was directed by Brandon Pierce and Brain Sowell, and it looks much more like a cult arthouse flick than a sci-fi action movie.

Wolves in the Throne Room keep impressing with another grand offering off their forthcoming album. "The act of the universe creating itself comes from the same impulse—it all springs from the same source, the same union of fire and ice. It’s the interplay between polarised opposites, and it’s from their contradiction and chaos that life happens and music and the planets are created," they say commenting on new track and video, Primal Chasm (Gift of Fire). Primordial Arcana comes out August 20th, 2021.

The Lord is an experimental project by the prolific Greg Anderson (Sunn O))), Engine Kid, Goatsnake). New track, Needle Cast, features guest lead vocals by Robin Wattie of the always busy, BIG | BRAVE. "Immediately after composing this track I was envisioning her dynamic vocals within the piece," Anderson writes about his collaboration with Wattie.
