Yuko Araki: Decoded Void

Yuko Araki is among a growing number of women emerging from Japan who are redefining the outer boundaries of noise, post industrial techno and experimental electronics. Raised as a pianist before a teenage obsession with metal opened the door to more extreme sounds, the Tokyo-based artist has developed a language that remains spirited even at its most abrasive.

Decoded Void, the lead single from Araki’s forthcoming sixth album V, brings her fascination with heaviness sharply into focus. Developed from ideas formed while supporting SUMAC in Tokyo in 2025, the track forces noise into a tightly constructed, rhythmically charged shape somewhere between club propulsion and extreme music.

“I have always been interested in the idea that noise can become more musical,” says Araki. “I’ve always been drawn to heavy, abrasive sounds, and I think that side of my taste comes through particularly clearly here. I feel like I managed to bring those elements together in a way that feels right to me.”

Jackson Kaki’s accompanying 3DCG video draws from Japanese art and literature, building a dark visual world around its piercing textures. V arrives January 22nd, 2027 via American Dreams.
