Normal Weirds invoke the heyday of anarcho-punk on Druidess, a fiercely organic track that hits with considerable force. The East Bay four-piece blend deathrock and dark post punk with the urgency of their punk roots, allowing sinister atmosphere and raw physical energy to coexist without becoming diluted.
Inspired by the unsettling imagery of an independent film, Druidess gradually developed a life and identity of its own. It stands among the darker moments on Frown Time, an excellent and thoroughly enjoyable album whose brief 25-minute runtime leaves little room for excess.
The band have shown remarkable consistency across their releases to date, and this latest offering further confirms the strength and reliability of their sound.
