Oregon-based musician and multimedia artist Devan Stefáni returns as Folian with Self-Limiter, six minutes of immense atmospheric weight that feel perfectly suited to the deepening autumn. The track establishes its scale immediately, then moves slowly and deliberately as though an implosion were expanding outward in real time.
Crushing guitars emerge through vast shoegaze textures while slowcore pacing allows every layer to accumulate with purpose. The heaviness feels both like blunt impact and sustained internal pressure. It's a contemplative piece, increasingly difficult to escape as it advances.
Often described as doomgaze, Folian draws from drone, shoegaze, slowcore, industrial music, black metal and experimental noise without settling completely inside any one form. Self-Limiter finds coherence within its own extremity, turning intensity into atmosphere as waves of repetition become hypnotic and unexpectedly absorbing.
