Hand Model drift through ideological debris on Communism, a slowcore-leaning track from the new album, Stuffing a Large Black Bird. The Los Angeles project embraces disorientation, absurdity and detachment from meaning, creating something remarkably deep from language that often appears deliberately nonsensical.
Fragmented lyrics move between stray thoughts, surreal humor and repeated sayings. Rather than resolving into a conventional narrative, they form a dreamlike stream of consciousness in which political language becomes another piece of free-floating noise.
Communism favors the leaden patience of slowcore while retaining Hand Model’s experimental undercurrent.
Hand Model began as the electronic project of Ignat Frege, one half of Wreck and Reference, and has since expanded into a full band with Jess Labrador of Chasms, Zack Frederick and Nathan Burger of Hundred Bliss. Stuffing a Large Black Bird reflects the band's evolution, bringing guitars, drums and synthesizers into contact with grunge rawness, environmental sound and Frege’s caustic writing.
