UK post punk outfit NAUT return with Bury Your Freedom, a dark, club-oriented single that signals a notable shift in their trajectory. Known for the physical intensity of their live performances and a sound shaped by goth, post punk and heavier forms of music, the band now channel those qualities into something leaner, sharper and more firmly directed toward the dancefloor.
The new single digs into the sacrifices made simply to endure, the slow yielding of time, freedom, and small but essential parts of the self in return for comfort, stability, and the illusion of achievement. As the band puts it: "Bury Your Freedom explores the quiet bargains we make to survive: surrendering time, liberty and fragments of ourselves in exchange for comfort, security and the illusion of success. It rails against a society that reduces life to spreadsheets, conference calls and sanitised consumption while manufacturing endless competition to keep us divided and obedient."
It is striking to watch NAUT continue to explore rather than remain confined by the sound they have already established. Although this new direction represents a significant turn, it never feels disconnected from their past. Its nocturnal energy, commanding presence and underlying severity are perfectly aligned with the band’s aesthetic, making Bury Your Freedom feel like the opening of a convincing new chapter.
