Scottish heavy post shoegaze band Sunstingerrelease Spare Me the Rapture, the title track and first single from their anticipated, expansive new six-track EP. Emerging from Scotland’s post-industrial landscape, Sunstinger draw inspiration directly from their surroundings. Their music reflects their environment through a succession of contrasts, like beauty and devastation, abrasion and reverie, oppression and romance.
The title track pushes the band into unfamiliar territory without abandoning their established identity. The guitars lock into a pattern that immediately pulls one in, and then new drummer Colm Boyle’s snare erupts, sharp and decisive, pushing the song into a chorus that opens up with a sudden sense of lift and momentum. The bass maintains a strong gravitational centre around which the surrounding noise can swirl. This balance allows the song to feel immense without losing its melodic shape, moving between suffocating heaviness and fleeting moments of transcendence.
The track embodies the EP’s central idea of finding comfort within misery instead of waiting for an impossible salvation. Inspired by Glasgow’s industrial character but viewed through an outsider’s eyes, the song focuses on the difficulty of forging an individual path within an environment that has already left its mark.
Following their own demoing process, Sunstinger recorded the EP with producer Sean Mitchell at Organic Audio in Glasgow. Determined to preserve the raw force of their live performances, the band avoided excessive studio experimentation and recorded using the same approach with which they play onstage.
