Brooklyn industrial punk band Hands First return with Instinct, the third in a series of five singles leading towards the release of their debut album.
Positioned at the intersection of hardcore, post punk and industrial music, Hands First seem to understand the visceral satisfaction of being completely overwhelmed by sound. On Instinct, restraint is largely abandoned in favour of sustained pressure, with the band refusing to ease off once the track has gathered momentum.
A hypnotic synthesizer loop establishes the song’s mechanical pulse, while strong guitars and huge drums turn it into something punishingly physical. Above the instrumentals, desperate vocals give the performance its human core, sounding like an emotional rupture unfolding live.
The band's aggression doesn't feel directionless. The song channels rage into catharsis, transforming accumulated tension into a relentless forward charge.
