Paris-based collective The Prestige continue refining their bleak and emotionally suffocating blend of post hardcore, sludge, and post metal on Isthmos, their third full length and arguably their most balanced statement to date. Released through Banshies, the record carries a sense of controlled collapse throughout, and Sunborn stands among its most devastating moments.
Built on layered textures and dense, crushing atmosphere, Sunborn moves with a hypnotic weight that never feels theatrical. The band channel sentimentality through abrasion, letting pure energy and melody bleed naturally into the track’s darker edges. Waves of noise and tension move against emotionally charged passages, creating something that feels intimate and overwhelming at once.
What makes the song hit so hard is how honestly it communicates its heaviness. It doesn't rely on exaggerated catharsis, but feels consumed by genuine emotional exhaustion, expressing devastation in a way that is raw, human, and deeply affecting. Beneath the suffocating distortion and post metal density lies a song driven by vulnerability, carrying the weight of inner collapse with clarity.
