Spike is the synthpop project of Hannah McLoughlin, drawing from the rich tradition of eccentric British synthpop, darkwave and nearby styles. Her self-titled debut album arrives on July 31st, 2026 via Gob Nation Records.
Leading the release is the single Disappear, accompanied by a cinematic visual directed by filmmaker and visual artist Matilda Butler.
The track is a synthpop standout that feels instantly familiar from the very first listen, blending immaculate production with expressive, commanding vocals.
McLoughlin unfolds: "Disappear started with a driving synth riff and a relentless bass line. I wanted the lyrics to match that same urgency. I kept imagining a character like Lady Macbeth, or a devout cult member—someone in the throes of obsession, experiencing biblical visions that feel both awe-inspiring and terrifying. I wanted the songs driving energy to keep escalating, which led me to the climactic modulation for the final chorus.
"For the video, we were inspired by 70s paranoia thrillers, and the supernatural intensity of films like Possession and Suspiria. It was shot on 16mm and filmed across a few London locations—the historic screen at Curzon Mayfair, Embankment Station, and along the Thames at night."
