Picture Postcard’s new EP, with time, arrives after the previous year that saw the Dublin band steadily carve out a place for themselves through a string of strong standalone singles and a growing presence within the underground shoegaze scene. Blending modern shoegaze with the emotional rawness of late nineties and early 2000s emo, the band draws from familiar influences without ever sounding tied to nostalgia alone. Layers of dense guitars and drifting synths shape a sound that feels immersive and emotionally weighty, matching the hazy atmosphere running throughout the release.
At its core, with time reflects on the slow passage of time and the emotional residue it leaves behind. Across five tracks, Picture Postcard move through themes of melancholy, regret, self-acceptance, and uncertainty, conveying the feeling of being trapped between what could have been and whatever comes next.
Working alongside Dublin indie label Never Meant Records and a visual artist closely connected to the band, the release is also supported by a carefully constructed visual identity that deepens the atmosphere surrounding the EP.
Opening track wherever you’re meant to be immediately establishes the band’s intent. Swells of distorted guitars, melodic undercurrents, and raw momentum come together in a way that feels familiar and striking, setting the tone for everything that follows. The track introduced the EP alondside a very well made video.
cranberry juice leans further into the band’s melodic side, bringing its dreampop textures forward while carrying a strong emotional pull. Built around memories and emotional exhaustion, it’s one of the EP’s most immediate and relatable moments.
The title track begins with restraint, unfolding slowly through dreamy, psychedelic textures before opening into a full shoegaze crescendo. It stands as the emotional centerpiece of the record, leading naturally into so far, a sharper and more forceful track that pushes the band into heavier territory without losing their sense of melody. It's a track that could easily stand alone as a single, combining soft and edgy vocals in a way that makes one question how Picture Postcard's sound might translate in a more metal/post metal atmosphere.
Closing track swan song brings the EP to a heavy and reflective conclusion. Focused on the realization that time alone cannot heal everything, it carries a quiet sense of resignation that fits the release perfectly.
With with time, Picture Postcard deliver a cohesive and emotionally resonant release that feels fully realized from beginning to end. It’s a record that settles in gradually, revealing more slowly, and further confirms the band as one of the more promising names emerging from the current shoegaze scene.
