D//E Premiere: LASHING: Sweat

Lashing began in Atlanta in 2020 as the solo recording project of Austin Walley, taking shape during a period marked by isolation, anxiety, and late-night experimentation. In 2023, Stephen Wilson joined the project after jumping on stage during a live set and never leaving. From that point on, Lashing became a duo.

Their sound draws from post punk, industrial, and dark electronic music, blending driving rhythms, angular guitars, and pulsing synths into something tense, energetic, and deeply atmospheric.

Sweat is the first single from their upcoming EP, a vibrant track built on propulsive synth bass, sharp guitar work, and commanding vocals. Echoes of glam and no wave meet the urgency of underground dance punk and the moodiness which the synths have to bring, creating a track that feels immediate, restless, and alive.

The track is pounding, rhythmic, and distorted enough to provide the proper amount of abberance and detachment, and it feels raw in both a personal and physical sense.  There’s tension running through it, but also release.
