Rooted in Germany’s Ruhr region, Melanculia is the personal solo project of Nino Sable, best known as the frontman of Aeon Sable. After years of silence following 2018’s Seventh Circle, Melanculia returns with post mortem,an album steeped in melancholy, post punk melody, dark psychedelia, and indie folk atmospheres.
The project traces back to Sable’s upbringing between two very different worlds: the bright Atlantic coast of Portugal and the stark industrial landscape of Germany’s Ruhr area. That sense of distance and dislocation became the emotional core of Melanculia, and the project's music was naturally shaped by longing, isolation, and reflection.
On post mortem, Sable embraces Melanculia as a true solo outlet, creating something intimate and unguarded. Built around acoustic guitars, ghostly synths, and raw lyricism, the album feels stripped back, vulnerable, and deeply human.
Sable comments on the album: “post mortem is resurrection music. Minimal arrangements channel emotional intensity through stark beauty – 130 bpm acoustic riffs meet spectral organs, building toward choruses that feel like sunboats rising through red skies. The industrial Ruhr area echoes in every chord: heavy skies, rusted steel, fleeting light.”
Sunboat Ascension, together with its accompanying video, gathers all those traits into a unified shadowed atmosphere, full of evocative and introspective qualities.
