Child of Night: Old Moons

Child of Night lean into a dancier strain of synthpop on their new single Old Moons, delivering their most overtly eighties and arguably most fun release to date. The accompanying video matches that energy, following a carefree night out that’s engaging from start to finish. It was directed by NYC-based photographer, artist, musician, and writer Alice Teeple.

‘Old Moons’ is the pop song within the singles,” says C.O.N.’s John. “This was one of the first songs Niabi and I wrote together in person.” John handled the verses, while Niabi crafted the earworm chorus: "Here I am, Here I am, Here I am missing you again."

The track stands in contrast to the grittier industrial pop of the band’s first album single, Controlled Burn.

The concept was ‘What about a bunch of friends doing karaoke?’” John says. “But a little Lynchian, inching towards fun/absurd,” Niabi adds. “When I was talking with Alice, who shot our music video, her initial thoughts on the concept were, I think, intrigued. She was like, ‘This is so fun and unusual and kind of goofy,’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, why zig when you can zag?

And I think that's what makes this music video different,” Niabi continues. “Here we were embracing quirk, fun, joy and grief, sharing with immediacy this moment in time. We are riding the line crossing over into that dark place where you don't want to go but because you are emotionally so down, you do, and it's really hard to explain how dark it is, but you are still trying to carry on.

Old Moons is the second single from Child of Night’s upcoming album Conspiracy, due May 15th, 2026. Minneapolis underground label Phage Tapes will release the vinyl and cassette editions, with Brazil’s Wave Records handling the CD and Germany’s Summer Darling Tapes overseeing the European cassette release.
