Snowcuffs: Sweet Gravity

Following the recent single Burst and the earlier In Blue, Chicago dreampop/shoegaze act Snowcuffs return with Sweet Gravity, a new EP that gathers those two tracks alongside a pair of previously unheard songs.

The buoyant drift of Burst and the gentle wistfulness of In Blue set the tone, and the two new additions broaden that mood while remaining rooted in the band’s misty shoegaze sound.

Sunless flows with a radiant and passionate vigor, with its shimmering guitars and unusual rhythms giving the song a kind of an erratic charm. Underneath the comfort that the overall sound achieves, the lyrics linger on a delicate form of attachment that could collapse at any time.

In contrast, Cold Memories emerges gradually and patiently, taking a moodier approach. Layers of fuzz-laden guitars build and extend to a soaring conclusion, conveying a peaceful sense of distance as the song contemplates emptiness, recollection, and longing.

Sweet Gravity reveals how Snowcuffs are honing their composition skills, demonstrating a mastery of moods and emotions, and finally establishing themselves as a formidable new group within the current dreampop scene.
