Alex Okami: Night Terrors

There’s a particular kind of darkness that lingers and waits, and on Night Terrors, Alex Okami flirts with that darkness, and ends up sinking into it completely.

The Los Angeles/Phoenix-based darkwave artist delivers a single that appears like a vibrant piece of shadow-work, a synth-laced fever dream that pulses with quiet menace. From the outset, a sharp production cuts through the silence, establishing a nocturnal atmosphere that refuses to loosen its grip.

Built on a foundation of darkwave and synthpop, the track carries a post punk chill that drapes over everything like a heavy fog. Layers of synth shimmer beneath the surface, giving the track a restless energy, while the vocals become the true haunt. Distant, submerged, and almost subconscious, they feel like internal monologue bleeding into the real world. A sense of dread seeps in gradually, coiling around the edges of the arrangement.

With a more incisive and contemporary perspective, Night Terrors pays respects to darkwave's history while burrowing further into the listener's psyche.
