Following a surprise reemergence that’s felt like an organic comeback, The Julies step into 2026 with Teenage Sadness, a glimmering new single paired with a fittingly hazy video. It’s the second taste off their forthcoming album Cherisher, due February 27th, 2026 via Lost in Ohio, and it finds the band leaning fully into the emotional textures that have always defined them.
Teenage Sadness drifts on melancholy without feeling stuck. The Julies’ sound shimmers with familiarity, while there’s a shift which comes courtesy of Olivia Buchholz from Lancaster County synthpop project, memory stitches, whose airy backing vocals help shape a beautiful atmosphere.
"At the time of writing, my family was really into belting out Lana Del Rey's 'Summertime Sadness' in the car," recalls singer Chris Newkirk. "Meanwhile, I'd fallen in love with Crowded House's latest single at the time, 'Teenage Summer.' Somewhere between those two songs, I ended up with a song title that just screamed single, not to mention some license to keep indulging in the theme of personal nostalgia."
The song’s video taps into the same sense of longing, built from flickers of imagery that feel salvaged from the past, all softened and distorted.
