Following their 2024 debut EP Blink Into Nothing, Leeds, UK shoegaze band Lozenge return with Silver, the tense first single from a forthcoming run of four. It’s a track that leans fully into sentimental weight through pensiveness, unfolding in a forceful and exciting manner.
The song is grounded by an undercurrent of acoustic guitar, which sharpens the focus beneath Lozenge's distinctive subtle hiss of distortion in the verses. When it eventually breaks open, it does so with almost explosive power, with unrelenting drumming propelling it into a climactic release.
Speaking on the track, the band share: “I wrote the chorus melody for Silver years ago on my grandad’s acoustic guitar during a quiet moment at a family gathering. When demoing the song and making it into a Lozenge tune, it made sense to tie things together with that churning, unending riff.”
Silver stands as an instance of reflection and progression for Lozenge, showing signs of how they have sharpened their identity while letting the noise grow wider, and implying a greater maturity, and a band more aware of the space they want to occupy.
