Elias Rønnenfelt is best known as the frontman of the acclaimed alternative band Iceage. Beyond Iceage, he has recently released two solo albums, Heavy Glory and the latest, Speak Daggers.
This live session, recorded at SPOT Festival by Tapetown, one of the most respected teams in live session recording and indie music, with over 15 years of experience, captures a compelling five-song set that highlights the raw energy of Rønnenfelt’s solo work. Tapetown is currently preparing to build a new, dedicated 130 m² recording studio located within a nature reserve in Denmark.
In the session, Rønnenfelt performs three tracks from his debut album, a striking rendition of 5, originally released in collaboration with acclaimed London-based producer Dean Blunt, as well as a renewed version of a Marching Church song; another of his projects, known for its broader and more expansive approach.
Tapetown's Rasmus Bredvig, and also the video editor, unfolds: "Normally, we want to get as close as we can to the artist when we do our live sessions. It makes you feel closer to them, and it creates for a more intense experience as a viewer.
"That's where shooting live concerts from stages are more tricky than location based sessions, because you can't cross the stage all the time, and for this concert, the venue wouldn't allow us to walk onto the stage at all, we could shoot from behind the lights and backdrops and down at the front rows. But luckily the venue itself, which is a large concert hall, looks great, and especially the side-shots and backshots came out great because of the depth.
"I was not sure how it would come out when we were shooting, due to Elias' rough aesthetic that works really well when you can get close. But it was a pleasure to see how well the whole band look, sounds and feels on such a large stage as this!"
