Summermouth is the latest release from dreampop/shoegaze outfit The Julies, following their celebrated return with another strong showing. The track confirms that their resurgence is driven by a genuine instinct for substantial artistry; never mere circumstance.
A dreamy, bittersweet burst of post punk and dreampop, Summermouth captures The Julies’ rare ability to put together music that feels euphoric and dreamlike at the same time, always shimmering with emotion while anchored in melody.
“We were pretty much weaned on those happy/sad songs that tricked you into dancing, but with tears in your eyes,” says singer Chris Newkirk. “And that’s what ‘Summermouth’ does. To me, at least.”
While the mood of their earlier work remains intact, The Julies deliver their new material with a revitalized spirit, approaching it with the enthusiasm and creative spark of a band just beginning.
