Ukrainian post-metal outfit Vøvk has released Promin, the first single from their upcoming album, expected this autumn. The track features a powerful collaboration with Johannes Persson of the renowned Swedish band Cult of Luna, marking a notable moment in his career since it is the first time Persson has performed in Ukrainian.
Promin is a song of mounting intensity, structured around a continuous buildup which steadily creates tension. The dynamic sounds of the track also reflects its thematic core, being a poignant interplay between darkness and light, evoking a sense of struggle, transformation, and hope. Vøvk’s solid musicianship blends seamlessly with Persson’s commanding vocal presence, offering a profound and atmospheric number.
"As a rule of life, I try to say 'yes' more often than 'no.' What I didn’t know was that Vøvk wanted me to sing in Ukrainian, a language I don’t speak, understand, or have any real grasp of. But hey, why not? All I could do was give it my best. I’m happy with the result and genuinely proud that Vøvk put their trust in me," Johannes Persson commented on the collaboration.
Oleksandr Kuts, Vøvk's frontman, adds: "This song needed a sense of support and unity. We believed Johannes could bring that feeling — and we weren’t wrong. He took a risk singing in Ukrainian, and delivered it authentically, sincerely, and with his signature sound. We’re endlessly grateful for his trust and courage."
