Patriarchy: Boy on a Leash

LA’s rebellious industrial pop duo Patriarchy are kicking off their Summer of Singles with the release of Boy on a Leash, a blistering track produced by Twin Shadow. It’s the first glimpse into their upcoming third album, Manual for Dying, set to arrive in September 2025. With an industrial pulse tailor-made for the dancefloor, the new single serves as the gateway to a season of monthly releases leading up to the full length.

The collaboration came together when Patriarchy mentioned their new album to George Lewis Jr., better known as Twin Shadow. Intrigued, Lewis suggested they work on something together. Among the demos Patriarchy presented was an analog version of Boy on a Leash, which Lewis instantly gravitated toward, marking it as their first joint endeavor.

We were kinda curious how it would turn out since we’re somewhat on different ends of the sonic spectrum, but after the first session we fell in love and realized he gets all our references and speaks the same studio language, which is so rare to find,” the band says.

The outcome channels the raw, untamed spirit of Patriarchy’s live performances into the single. Having road-tested Boy on a Leash in nearly a hundred shows, the band had refined it into something visceral and commanding. That same electrifying presence carries into the accompanying music video, where their signature ferocity is on full display. Directed by the duo themselves, the video stitches together multiple energetic performances, even featuring a guest appearance by their son.

You can see we both have fresh red marks on our knees and necks from all the takes,” Patriarchy says.
