Leanest Cut is the first single arriving ahead of the release of Ōtepoti Dunedin, New Zealand trio Death and the Maiden's upcoming third album, Uneven Ground. The new full length follows the band's eponymous debut in 2014, and Wisteria in 2018, both out through the eclectic New Zealand label, Fishrider Records.
Leanest Cut aptly embodies the existential ambiguity which is central to Uneven Ground, and presents the band in a mellow mood, offering a sound which feels haunting and enticing at the same time. With a unique take on post punk and dreampop mixed with finely crafted electronics, the song creates a mesmerizing atmosphere, hovering between the ethereal and the tangible domains.
Death And The Maiden consist of Lucinda King (vocals, Bass), Hope Robertson (guitar, drums, vocals) and Danny Brady (synths, programming).
