Established in 2012, Kontravoid is the creative endeavor of the enigmatic figure Cameron Findlay, originally hailing from Canada and presently rooted in Los Angeles. Moving within the realms of dark synthpop, darkwave, synthwave and hard techno, Kontravoid prepares for the release of the new album Detachment, expected out on March 1st, 2024, through Artoffact Records.
The freshly unveiled single from the forthcoming album, Reckoning, is accompanied by a very impressive music video which sees Findlay collaborating with Alec Mackenzie. The track pulsates with industrialized intensity, evoking a palpable sense of agitation, while the visuals contribute to an immersive, nearly nightmarish ambiance.
Findlay states: "The video for Reckoning was influenced by horror/sci-fi anime and comics that Alec and I are fans of. The film Wicked City and the work of Yoshiaki Kawajiri was a strong influence on the look of the video, as well as Spawn, Preacher and Heavy Metal Magazine. Once Alec and I starting talking about a creative direction for the video we realized that we both share the same appreciation for a style of animation from the '90s and early 2000s, and wanted to achieve something similar with the video."
