Exotic Fruitica were founded in Austin, Texas, in 2022 by Jon French (guitars, vocals) and Aaron Gilligan (drums), who have been close friends for a long time. Their debut studio album, Cruel, scheduled to be released on August 10th, 2023, by Mr. Pink Records, showcases a solid mix of compressed fuzzed out sounds, a lot of noisiness and energy.
Cruel lifts heavily from the revival of early nineties post hardcore, with bands like Metz, Viagra Boys, and Crows serving as influences. New track, Dirtiest Scum, features a guest appearance by Paul Leary from Butthole Surfers on lead guitar.
Dirtiest Scum is a powerful track based on strong rhythms, distortion and a snarling vocal which explores the themes of drug use and a vicious death cult in a sarcastic and nihilistic manner.
