Frequently updated playlists result in a constant flux of content. While this can be intriguing and dynamic, it also runs the risk of thinning the personal connection, and hurting the natural cohesion of the playlist.
Although maintaining dynamic playlists on Spotify, which continuously evolve and give a sense of a live entity, is exciting, it is crucial to balance that with the desire for solidity, attachment, and unrestricted music exploration.
In the end, this is a matter of personal preference and listening habits, but the charm of static playlists shouldn't be lost.
Impromptu playlisting involves creating a collection of songs that we enjoy at a particular moment, whether they have a specific theme and sound or not. The focus is solely on the listening experience, without any unnecessary promotional connotations. We have done impromptu playlists in the past, and we will continue to create them occasionally, starting with this new one.
For archival purposes, we will retain the old playlist approach under the D//E Playlist grouping, while introducing a new category, D//E Mixtape, for our impromptu playlists going forward.
