City Of Industry: Chalk This Up To Assault

City of Industry prepare for the release of their new album, Spiritual West, out on November 11th, 2022 on No Funeral Records and Modern Grievance. The band continues on the same exciting trajectory as their 2020 breakthrough album, False Flowers, as evidenced by the first example of their new work.

Chalk This Up To Assault, the first song to be released and the album's opening track, is a direct attack of hardcore, violent dynamism which is expertly produced and shows the band's existential anxiety, together with their obvious individuality. "I am not completely like other people. People dislike me because I am not completely like them," the song opens with a real catatonic schizophrenia patient's sampled voice.

Frontman and songwriter John Caraveo comments: "Spiritual West is, musically and lyrically, the most honest, raw, and poignant piece of work I've ever done. In the past two years I've experienced the death of some people very close to me. I am facing the fact that every single relationship we have will undoubtedly come to an end, in one way or another. I am facing my own imminent death. I am realizing how small and insignificant I am, and every other person who has lived or will live.

"I don't want to fit in or seek the 'scene's' approval in any way. I want to be myself, all the time, one hundred percent. Unapologetic aggression. Knowing I can be myself and be honest and sleep well at night."

Spiritual West was recorded by Nich Wilbur (Mt. Eerie, Sumac), and mixed and mastered by Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Gouge Away).

City of Industry are John Caraveo (guitar, vocals), Jack Thompson (bass) and  Pablo Lara (drums).
