Pentatonic: Jasmine

China's Pentatonic return after a long break with a new album which carries the playful title, Bye Bye! Post Rock!. The new record follows the band's debut, Syndrome, from 2013, and a digital EP, and like those previous recordings, it balances quite artfully between atmospheric post rock and wistful slowcore.

The band has come a long way since their early beginnings, and have gone through line up changes, yet, after settling as a quintet with a traditional set up regarding their instrumentation, their vision for a melodious and notably melancholic post rock sound has constantly been rather clear, and very well expressed.

Album highlight, Jasmine, shows the band's instrumental strength, and their ability to come up with a very much appealing variant of post rock, on that feels cordially familiar, yet, not accustomed to generalities.
