Birth of Violence will be the next album by the very much productive dark musician, Chelsea Wolfe. It's her first acoustic one since 2012's Unknown Rooms: A Collection of Acoustic Songs, still, due to its totally different nature, this completely new and original set of songs is not very much comparable to the seven year old unplugged compilation.
The new album is introduced by opening track, The Mother Road, which in all its stripped down beauty once more validates that Wolfe can be equally affecting and powerful through both her full on electric aspect and the more toned down and somber parts of her creativity. It's a haunting ode to Route 66, expressing the artist's homebound tendencies, and her return to her singer-songwriter roots.
Birth of Violence was written and recorded in the solitude of Wolfe's remote home in Northern California. "I've been in a state of constant motion for the past eight years or so; touring, moving, playing new stages, exploring new places and meeting new people-an incredible time of learning and growing as a musician and performer," she comments. "But after a while, I was beginning to lose a part of myself. I needed to take some time away from the road to get my head straight, to learn to take better care of myself, and to write and record as much as I can while I have 'Mercury in my hands,' as a wise friend put it."
The album features the contribution of Chelsea Wolfe's longtime collaborators Ben Chisholm, Jess Gowrie and Ezra Buchla. Wolfe will be embarking on an acoustic tour this Fall.
Birth of Violence comes out September 13th, 2019 on Sargent House.
