Leatherette: So Long

Italian post punk band Leatherette emerge with So Long, a nervy and sophisticated take on post punk, part of their debut full length, Fiesta, and the follow up to the EP, Mixed Waste.

The song, full of gritty sounds and shattering energy, can undoubtedly claim a place among the more current, aware, and vibrant facets of post punk, and stand alongside some of the band's peers such as Iceage, Shame, and IDLES.

The band comment on So Long: "It is a song about struggling to the point you feel you hit rock bottom. Screaming about it might not be the answer to the problem, but we must confess it was quite fun and liberating. Loud, acid, alien guitars and a punchy, hypnotic rhythm section were surely helpful to the process."

Fiesta was mostly written before the strike of the pandemic, yet, but the band spent their time in isolation rewriting and working more on it.

Leatherette explain that the album title is "a reference to the bullfights in Pamplona." They expand: “Bullfight is a strange ritual. And we’re against bullfights, but they’re fascinating in an iconographic way. And also metaphorically, violence flows on both sides, but in a feastful way. It’s similar to a concert, really – you’re expressing violent things, in a physical way. And people react to that, which is wonderful, which is fantastic.

Fiesta will be released on October 14th, 2022 through Bronson Recordings.
