Both The Body and BIG | BRAVE have released very strong individual albums in the first half of 2021. The two great bands have announced their collaborative album, Leaving None But Small Birds, expected out on September 24th, 2021 via Thrill Jockey.
First single, Oh Sinner, is a traditional folk song presented through the despondent and weighty filter which the two acts' union brings forward. Both bands aim beyond the expected and reach back toward more traditional territories, keeping the downcast mood of their original artistry, and favoring sounds from the country and folk vanguard.
True to The Body's usual way, Leaving None But Small Birds draws its title from a song, this time from the track, Polly Gosford, which is featured on the album; a murder song usually found as Pretty Polly, about a young woman led into a forest where she is murdered and buried in a shallow grave.
After research and the collection of components from across Appalachian, Canadian, and English hymns and folk songs, the album was composed almost completely in the studio at Machine With Magnets with producer Seth Manchester.
