Rapt: Backwards

Bringing forth a very much airy ambient folk sound with a strong slowcore and shoegaze feel, Brighton's Rapt release the ponderously titled new full length, None Of This Will Matter, through Z Tapes Records, following last year's 5-track release, Within Thrall

Firmly rooted in the dreamier side of folk, Rapt's music, conceived and led by musician Jacob Ware, feels rather fragile at first, yet, it also emits a kind of warm familiarity akin to that of Mount Eerie, Grouper and Songs: Ohia while appearing instinctual, and without any deliberate intentions to invite comparisons nor to attach itself to any particular genre.

Embracing the sadness of the lyrical content and the well crafted instrumentals, the entire album's stark beauty can be a cathartic experience and an inspiring one for a first time listener, and also something expected for those who detected Rapt's songwriting efficiency back in 2018 through their more ambient-prone self titled album.

Album highlight, Backwards, is a haunting an enticing folk tune which features the prominent vocal of Demi Haynes from St. Louis shoegazers, Seashine.
