The Hold Steady: Denver Haircut

One of the far better accessible rock bands out there, Brooklyn greats, The Hold Steady, are about to release their new album, Thrashing Thru The Passion, via Frenchkiss Records on August 16th, 2019. It's the band's seventh studio album in total, and first in five whole years, and it comes only a few months after their frontman's esteemed latest full length, I Need A New War.

First single, Denver Haircut, finds the acclaimed group all excited writing together again, and sounds electrifying, impressively instrumented and produced, conveying the band's signature passion and charisma.

The new song isn't the first piece we've heard from the upcoming LP though, as five of its tracks were issued digitally between November 2017 and March 2019.

"Denver Haircut is a story about a guy who has chance meet up that takes him to a few different locations before leaving him alone and cashless in a strange hotel room," says Craig Finn. "Steve Selvidge (guitarist) brought in the music to this song and everyone felt it immediately, it was really fun to play. The story unfolded quickly too. When recording, we remarked that it sounded like it could kick off an album…and so here we are."

The album was recorded at The Isokon in Woodstock, NY with producer Josh Kaufman, and marks the reemergence of original member, Franz Nicolay, on keyboards, who's been back with THS since 2016.

"I’ve been saying for a few years now - since Franz came back- that this six piece lineup of The Hold Steady is the best band we’ve ever been," Finn comments. "The new songs recorded by this version of the band are super exciting to us. It’s been a very fun and creative period for The Hold Steady."
