METZ: Dry Up

Contemporary punk stalwarts, METZ, are back, not with a new canonical LP, but with an upcoming b-sides and rarities collection, which can be just as great, and most certainly welcome. Automat releases on July 12th, 2019 via Sub Pop.

Dry Up is a killer b-side from the band’s single, Ripped On The Fence, dating back to 2009 and the band's very early days.

"METZ have been making music together for over 10 years," states frontman, Alex Edkins, and continues commenting about the compilation and video: "It’s been a blur. We’ve very rarely allowed ourselves to look backward. We’ve been hyper-focused on always moving forward at breakneck speed, perpetually fixated on what’s next. The video for Dry Up, as well as the Automat album, is an attempt to pause, take a breath, look backward and take stock of our past. It’s intended to express how grateful we are to be able to do what we do. It’s a love letter to the incredible places we’ve traveled, the beautiful people we’ve met, to community, music, and friendship."

It's worth mentioning that the vinyl version of Automat will include a bonus single with three additional covers tracks; Sparklehorse’s Pig, The Urinals’ art-punk classic, I’m a Bug, and Gary Numan’s M.E. The first was part of a very limited Record Store Day release from 2012, while the other two will be issued for the first time.

Until then, the wildness of Dry Up is surely capable of getting us pumped up for the band's lesser known material.
