Cable Ties: Choking To Choose

Composed of three radical individuals who embraced punk rock as a way of life and expression, Melbourne band, Cable Ties are the latest addition to the revered RIP Records Introduces Series of singles.

By adding bold elements from post punk, garage rock and krautrock to their freakishly energetic rendition of straightforward punk, the upcoming band offer a driving and grabbing sound which can appear primitive and refined in equal measures. The five-minute winner that is Choking To Choose resolutely deals with consumerism and identity, and presents the band in an entirely ferocious mode.

"It’s about the limits of political action through consumer choices, ‘ethical consumption’ and whether it’s something that can actually influence change or whether it’s just a signal to those around you about how ‘woke’ you are," say the band. "[It’s] about the limits that come with expressing your feminist politics only through the clothing that you wear and the beauty practices you do or don’t perform on your body. Ultimately it calls for us to look beyond these individualistic, consumer choices and start analysing the conditions of the society within which we make those choices."

The song was originally released along with A-side, Tell Them Where to Go, on a small edition of seven-inch singles, sold to raise money for Girls Rock! Melbourne, and now it comes back for another run through RIP Records. Volume One of the RIP Records Introduces Series featured music from acts such as Hotel Lux, Dama Scout, Canshaker Pi, Water From Your Eyes and Sweaty Palms, and Volume Two has already begun to a great start with Guts Club and Blackaby.
