Cave Suns: Gates of Gel / Keep Breathing

Opposed to the customarily long lengths of their progressive compositions, Newcastle's Cave Suns return with a double A-side of two denser than usual tracks, produced by the band and Matt H (Little Comets), and sounding more direct than ever.

Gates of Gel / Keep Breathing finds the band in incredible form as a quartet after the addition of a new member on their roster, and takes their fine amalgamation of blues rock, stoner rock and psychedelia into a whole other level, making the best use of the band's genre-bending sophistication.

The post apocalyptic, Gates Of Gel, has its pounding doom metal force mingled with an experimental, space rock-inclined drive which relentlessly pounces upon the listener, while the groovier, Keep Breathing, isn't shy on expressing the band's admiration for post punk and neo-psychedelia, and even introduces some very welcome jazz and funk influences.

Cave Suns have always been versed in putting their sources of inspiration to good use, and this latest release of theirs reaffirms that the band is capable of bearing the markings of their diverse influences proudly, and present them through their own original manner.
