Men I Trust: Seven

Canada's Men I Trust have been getting better and more impressive with each release. Their rise has happened steadily and firmly, and it seems that it will not take much longer until the trio is being universally considered one of the top dreampop acts in the world. The band has an upcoming gig at Tyler, The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in Los Angeles, and word of mouth spreads fast. Men I Trust are going to be huge.

Seven is their latest offering, a lovely, enchanting indie pop piece with a pretty accompanying visual, filmed and directed by the band themselves. Naturally, they are not shy about it either, as the band have a lot to share about both the song and video:

"Seven is a light-hearted song that tells a story which happened last summer to our friends, while we were all at a get-together in a cabin by a lake in the countryside of Quebec. Seven thus started as a summer memory for us.

The music video we shot and directed recreates that light late-summer outdoor feel. We chose to film again with our friends Julia, Sophie and Fannie (featured in Lauren, You Deserve This and I Hope To Be Around) and it was lots of fun, so much that we almost forgot we were shooting a music video. We all got together at our friend’s country house - a dream setup! - where there are lots of nearby forests, high grass, rivers and lakes. After long periods of time spent on the road, and during pre-tour rehearsals, we like to spend time in places like this that feel like a Canadian retreat.

For this song, we wrote the instrumentals before the lyrics and decided to go with a bit more lo-fi and muddy sound than our usual releases. We also recorded a guilty-pleasure 1 minute solo to end everything in a grand finale. We can’t wait to play that one live during our fall tour in Europe and in the US."

Men I Trust are Jessy (bass, guitar), Dragos (keyboards) and Emma (vocals, guitar). We'll all be hearing much more from them in the future.
