Josh Hwang is a 22-year old college student from Orange County, CA, who makes and records his brilliant version of dreampop music in the comfort of his bedroom under the name CASTLEBEAT.
Josh puts out his as well as his friends' music on his own super indie label, Spirit Goth, on which CASTLEBEAT's self titled debut was just released.
CASTLEBEAT's debut is an amazing lo-fi record that delightfully mingles dreampop aesthetics with surf and garage rock. The record's super DIY feel is enhanced by its hazy production, the jangly guitar riffs and the innocent simplicity in Hwang's lyrics, providing an overall sweet and nostalgic experience that would probably not leave even the most skeptic listener unimpressed.
