PÆRISH translate the raw, fast-moving energy of their song Vapor Cloud into a nocturnal world of Japanese cars, drifting and collective obsession. Instead of treating the vehicles as simple visual accessories, the accompanying video places the band behind the wheel and allows automotive culture to become part of the song’s emotional language.
The clip's colorful, dreamlike imagery draws from Asian cinema, eighties and nineties anime, video games and the graphic language of tuning culture. Cars also carry a deeper meaning within the band’s history. Encountering unfamiliar models, shapes and colors while touring, particularly across the United States, turned them into symbols of discovery and displacement.
In Vapor Cloud, speed matters less than possibility, the car becomes an object through which travel, childhood memory and dreams of somewhere else briefly converge.
The band’s melancholic, finely sculpted shoegaze, all sharp edges and intricate detail, is met with a bizarre visual counterpart, but the union creates an artwork that insists on being studied.
