Los Angeles duo Patriarchy turn a proven live favorite into the focal point of their forthcoming Appendices EP with Servile, an electro-industrial metal epic exploring the terrifying intimacy of surrender.
Moving through the psychological gray areas of Stockholm syndrome, Servile speaks from the perspective of someone who longs to be depersonalized and remade as another force’s instrument.
“‘Feed me, fuck me, keep me high…’ This direct quote from a Manson family killer felt perfect for “Servile,” a track about the terrifying intimacy of surrender,” says Actually Huizenga. “Surrender to a lover, to society, to religion, to addiction, or any force that makes self-erasure feel like devotion. In the song, I speak from inside of a body being reshaped by control: cutting off the parts that won’t obey, trading fear for submission, and finding the power in becoming someone else’s weapon.”
The track’s already formidable intensity is heightened by chorus screams from Norwegian all-female black metal band Witch Club Satan, recorded after Patriarchy invited them to contribute during their recent US tour.
Following the genre-resistant singles Bite Marks and Lilylicker, Servile pushes the duo’s fusion of electronic darkness, theatrical provocation and metallic force into even more punishing territory.
