Philadelphia’s Heavy Shrug introduce their forthcoming debut album Viscera with Green Souls, a solid piece of emotionally charged alternative rock. The record arrives in its entirety on September 19th, 2026 through Bad Catt Records.
Emerging from the Washington, DC band Frend, Heavy Shrug retains the creative partnership of vocalist-guitarist James Keary and bassist S.G. Catoe. Their sound brings together the shadowy melodicism of nineties alternative rock and grunge, the volatility of post hardcore, and atmospheric traces of shoegaze and dreampop.
Green Souls explores the erosion of identity within a relationship, changing oneself for another person until their desires begin to replace one's personality. It examines the point at which love becomes confused with sacrifice and authenticity gives way to performance.
Heavy Shrug translate that inner conflict into something immediate and difficult to categorize, balancing intensity, melody and atmosphere without smoothing away the song’s emotional unease.
